This resonates with me so much. I got my current role without having written production ready Golang code in my 12 years of software engineering (save for some exploratory development in Golang because I was looking for a faster way to get some bulk processing done and PHP / Nodejs wasn’t getting me anywhere, and looking over the shoulder of folks like Agiri Abraham Jr. for a 6 month stint)
I got the role and I took to Golang like a duck to water.
Granted, I’ve always been a polyglot and open to writing code in whatever language was required on the project but I was glad that my prospective manager saw this and decided to take a chance on me.
Thanks Sumeyye Bitomsky for not putting me in a box and affording me the opportunity to grow into the role (regardless of my overeager tendencies in my first few days 😂).
