I went on a social media cleanse recently (a bit more than that to be honest) and while in that state, I rediscovered my love for Flutter. I decided to explore the current state of the art (taking a break from writing Go and Typescript) and build something interesting.
I downloaded an Android launcher a couple of months back and I disliked the constant prompts to pay for features that I thought were simple, so I thought, why not build it yourself.
Introducing, Noir Launcher - a clean, simple Android launcher that seeks to simplify your phone usage experience. For those that have a slight addiction to their phone and want to be intentional about the apps they use, this launcher declutters your Android experience without the constant ads and prompts to pay for features.
You get a light or dark mode, a choice of digital or analog clock on your home screen, the ability to rename apps and hide them (if you want to).

You can also add an endless list of apps to your favourites (why would they be endless if you want to reduce phone usage? But you do have the option) and all of this is free.

If you want to give it a try, check it out here
I’m working on a few more apps that seek to remove paywalls. While I understand the need for developers to want to get paid, I also understand that not everyone is in the position to pay for conveniences like this and this is a gap I’m happy to fill. If you have an idea for an Android or iOS app that you’d want me to replicate, feel free to reach out.
